Editing is only of my passions, and it all began with my love for reading and writing. I've been writing for years in different genres and for different audiences. And now, I finally feel ready to share and self-publish one of my projects.
The Cutest Cactus in Big Bend was inspired by a real-life mitten-shaped cactus my family and I discovered during one of our trips in the Big Bend region of Texas. It's charm was captured on the camera, and my sister-in-law said, "You should write a book about this cactus."
I knew she was right, because all I could think about was making this book a reality. After months of working the manuscript and with an illustrator, that book is now a reality!
Meet Mittens in The Cutest Cactus in Big Bend, a book about a friendly cactus and written for children 3-8 years old. The story follows Mittens’ journey as she tries to befriend the desert animals around her. Though she’s prickly on the outside, Mittens dreams of finding friends who will see her true, sweet self. When a park ranger’s photo of her goes viral, Mittens’ life changes forever.
The book will be published as an 8.5x8.5in board book and is beautifully illustrated by Roberta Tomarchio.
Children's books have a lot of upfront costs. I have a talent for writing. Illustrating? Not so much. So, that's one cost. Another cost is offset printing. To help with these costs, I have started a Kickstarter campaign. Please have a look, and if you feel inspired to pledge, I would appreciate the support!
